So, when I followed my assignment from the Lord to support, visit and befriend my dearly beloved Geneva Keene, it wasn't long before we started offering Bible Study to others in the same nursing home. That is how I met my sweet sister in the Lord, Miss Freda Farmer.
I knew the moment I entered her room, she was a dear sister in the Lord. She was a student of the Word and had her room set up just for that purpose. She was happy to join our Bible Study. What I had not considered was the personalities of hers and Geneva's being such an interesting combination. I quickly learned I needed to set them at a bit of a distance from one another, and they would often clash. Even with the unexpected challenges, it was always a great Bible Study.
Freda had been a missionary, never marrying, never having children, but lived a life dedicated to spreading the gospel literally across the globe. She took the Bible to Indonesia and Taiwan. I don't have proof of this, but she told me that the people she ministered to till supported her financially and made her stay possible at the nursing home.
I will never forget the testimony she shared. Her family had gone to church for years, but the Bible just sat on the shelf between Sundays. It was not until she went to a home Bible Study and began reading the Bible herself that she really knew the Lord. She said, "And Whoowee, when I started reading the Bible, what the Bible said hadn't changed, but when I read it, it sure changed me!"
I thank God for the change that comes when we read the Word of God! Our Lord loves us too much to leave us the way we were when we found him!
